Massive Maintenance Operation at Arauco Argentina: A Global Effort
In Puerto Esperanza, a colossal operation involving a workforce of 2,300 professionals from countries as diverse as Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Sweden, Chile, and Peru has commenced. This “pit stop” for the largest industry in Misiones is none other than the annual maintenance of the Arauco Argentina cellulose pulp producer.
Arauco Argentina has announced a scheduled General Maintenance Stop (PGP) at the Esperanza Cellulose Plant from March 4th to March 26th, 2026. This planned major maintenance process aims to ensure personnel safety, optimize equipment efficiency, and maintain continuous operations under the industry’s highest industrial and environmental standards, as indicated by the company.
During these three weeks, a myriad of activities meticulously planned over a year will take place. Key tasks include:
- Updating electrostatic precipitators.
- Coating and replacing equipment in Manufacturing and Services areas.
- Comprehensive maintenance of the Recovery Boiler.
- Replacing the debarker drum, digester cap, and reboiler.
- General maintenance services for valves.
Economic and Workforce Impact
At its peak, the PGP will engage over 2,300 individuals, including company employees and contractors, with approximately 60% to 70% of the workforce originating from the province of Misiones. The stoppage will involve 66 contracting companies and 125 international specialists from Brazil, Chile, Peru, Germany, and Sweden. This event is expected to temporarily boost the demand for transportation, accommodation, food services, and other local services, creating a positive economic ripple effect in the local and regional economy.
Safety and Coordination
All operations will be conducted under strict industrial and environmental safety standards. Arauco is collaborating closely with local authorities and relevant organizations to ensure proper logistical organization during the stoppage period.
“Arauco thanks the community for their support and reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of Puerto Esperanza and the region,” the company stated.
