Misiones Prepares for a Surge in Tourism During Winter Holidays

As the winter break approaches, the province of Misiones is gearing up for an influx of tourists during the holidays, coinciding with the extended weekend celebrating Independence Day. The Minister of Tourism, José María Arrúa, disclosed that hotel bookings have already surpassed 60% across the province for the start of the holiday period.

Arrúa emphasized that the vacation period will be segmented by provinces. He stated, “De vuelta las vacaciones van a ser segmentadas por provincias…Vamos a arrancar con un impulso importante que es el 10, 11 y 12 de julio, todo lo que es la fecha del TC en Posadas…”. The motorsport event at Posadas is expected to boost promotions and attract a significant audience.

The Minister further highlighted the anticipated arrival of tourists from Brazil and Paraguay, considering them “two strategic allies” for tourism. Misiones has implemented targeted promotional campaigns in these markets to enhance tourist arrivals.

Regarding accommodation, the province boasts an occupancy rate exceeding 60%, with expectations in the Northern region of surpassing 70% by the second week of July.

Addressing the question of whether Misiones remains an all-year-round destination, Arrúa acknowledged the challenges posed by the national economic situation, stating that the continuous flow of tourists has been disrupted. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about July, expressing hopes that the El Niño phenomenon will not severely impact the attractions by the waterfalls and rivers, which are integral to Misiones’ natural allure.

Arrúa also mentioned efforts to streamline the entry of visitors, particularly at the Puerto Iguazú border crossing. He acknowledged this as a key concern, stating, “tenemos una reunión importante con la gente de Migración para tratar de ajustar, por lo menos para la temporada…”.
